2016: Spotlight
2016 was a great year for movies and some of the best films to come out this year are truly worth watching. One such movie is Spotlight, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2016. This gripping drama tells the story of how a team of investigative reporters from The Boston Globe uncovered one of history’s most notorious cases – child abuse by Catholic priests in Massachusetts. 2015: Birdman
The previous winner at the Oscars was Birdman (2015), another critically acclaimed film about redemption starring Michael Keaton as Riggan Thomson who attempts to reclaim his past glory through mounting a Broadway play based on Raymond Carver's short story What We Talk About When We Talk About Love? Directed by Alejandro Inarritu, Birdman is visually stunning yet emotionally moving as it explores themes like fame, artistry and mortality within its surrealistic setting .
2014: 12 Years a Slave
2014 saw 12 Years A Slave pick up Best Picture honors at The Academy Awards; telling Solomon Northup’s true life tale about being kidnapped into slavery during pre-Civil War America - this film features outstanding performances from Chiwetel Ejiofor , Lupita Nyong'o , Benedict Cumberbatch & Brad Pitt amongst others . It also serves as reminder that although slavery has been abolished since 1865 , racism continues to be rampant even today making 12 Years A Slave both heartbreakingly relevant & timelessly poignant .
2013: Argo
Argo (2013) directed by Ben Affleck brought home 3 Oscar awards ; Adapted Screenplay , Film Editing & Best picture - It follows CIA agent Tony Mendez's mission in 1979 Iran where he hatches an elaborate plan involving fake Hollywood filmmakers scouting locations so they can rescue 6 US citizens stuck there after Iranian Revolution broke out earlier that year . With its thrilling edge-of-your seat suspenseful moments Argo keeps you glued till end !
2012: The Artist
Last but not least we have 2012’s Winner : Michel Hazanavicius ‘The Artist ‘ which pays tribute to silent era cinema complete with black&white visuals accompanied only music score throughout entire runtime! Starring Jean Dujardin playing George Valentin alongside Berenice Bejo portraying Peppy Miller -the two leads bring wonderful chemistry together alongwith fantastic supporting cast comprising John Goodman U.
